5 Simple Ways to Improve Your Website’s User Experience (Without Coding)

Let’s talk about user experience.

But before we dive into the matrix, let’s use an example from the offline world to understand why User Experience matters so much.

Imagine you go to have a nice dinner out, you go on Google and search for a restaurant around you, then you choose one you’ve never tried before. You put on your outfit, get a bit fancy and drive there.

As soon as you walk in the door the host greets you and shows you your table.

Service is top-notch, the music and vibe around are on point and the food is just great!

The waiter sparks up a fun conversation and even treats you to a little extra drink on the house.

This is what I like to call the - "Take My Money Experience"

Now, imagine the same scenario, only this time you show up in the restaurant and have to wait for 10 minutes before anyone even gives you a look.

The music is way too loud, the lighting is completely off, and the service is basic, nothing to write home about.

The food might be great, but if the experience is not pleasant and fun, do you think you’d go back there?

This is what I like to call the - "Never Again Experience"

The same goes for your website…

A well-designed website isn’t just about aesthetics – it’s about creating an experience that keeps visitors engaged, allows them to enjoy scrolling through your website and ultimately drives conversions.

If you create a smooth, easy-to-navigate, clear, and cohesive experience, there’s a much better chance for users to take action on your website, come back to it, and recommend it to others.

Here are five simple, code-free ways to improve your site’s user experience (UX):

1. Simplify Navigation:

Ensure your website is easy to navigate by limiting your menu options to 5-7 items.

Group similar pages under dropdowns and keep navigation consistent across all pages.

A clean, intuitive menu helps users find what they need faster.

2. Use Clear Call-to-Actions (CTAs):

Make your CTAs stand out with contrasting colours and concise, action-oriented text. Phrases like “Book Now” or “Get Started” work better than generic terms like “Submit.” Place CTAs strategically – above the fold and at the end of important sections.

3. Optimize for Mobile:

Most visitors browse on their phones, so ensure your site looks great on all screen sizes. Use responsive templates from platforms like Wix or Squarespace and regularly check how your site performs on mobile.

4. Make sure to check your colour contrast:

I’ve seen this happen far too many times - you’ve built a beautiful website, poured your heart out to write the perfect content, and picked your favourite colours, but you didn’t check the colour contrast… And that means that there’s a good chance a lot of your content won’t be readable for your site’s visitors.

So how do you check the contrast? Easy, you follow this link to Coolors, upload your colour pallet and check the contrast.

5. Incorporate White Space:

I see website design just like I see interior design - Most of the walls in your home (usually) are white, the colour splashes you add with different elements (pillows, paintings, plants, you get the idea).

When designing your website make sure to give your content room to breathe by adding white space around text and images. This improves readability and draws attention to key elements, enhancing the overall user experience.

User experience is a key factor in your website’s performance, so make sure to follow these tips and give your users the "Take My Money" experience. Happy Designing!
